DPS Rotation & Cooldowns (5.2)

Maintaining a proper Rotation and using the right Cooldowns is essential to maximizing your Fury Warrior. Use this guide to optimize your single target and AoE rotations while learning how to get the most out of your cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

Stance:

Use one of the following stances.

Battle Stance Use during periods of normal raid damage.

Berserker Stance Use during periods of high raid damage.
DPS Priority:
Execute this priority for optimal DPS (2H and DW).

Bloodthirst on cooldown. Applies Deep Wounds.

Colossus Smash as often as possible.
Heroic Leap if Colossus Smash buff is up. Not on the GCD!
Heroic Strike to dump Rage (40+) when Colossus Smash is up. Not on the GCD!
Execute as a Rage dump when target is below 20% health.
Raging Blow whenever available.
Wild Strike when Bloodsurge procs.
Heroic Throw and Impending Victory as filler abilities.
Fury Warrior DPS follows the priority outlined above. Use Bloodthirst as often as possible to build Rage and maintain Deep Wounds. Cast Colossus Smash as often as possible (without overwriting). Try to pool Rage before Colossus Smash so that you cast as many attacks as possible during its debuff. Also, while the Colossus Smash buff is up, always try to use Heroic Leap as it is not on the GCD and can be activated along with your other abilities. Heroic Strike should also be used while to Colossus Smash buff is up, but only to dump excess Rage (40+) during this time.

After this, use Execute as often as Rage will allow when your target is below 20% health. Use Raging Blow whenever available and save Wild Strike for Bloodsurge procs. Finally, use Heroic Throw and Impending Victory as filer abilities when low on Rage.

AoE Rotation

Raging Blow

Whirlwind
Dragon Roar
With 2 targets, continue with the single target rotation. For 3-5 targets, use Whirlwind 3 times to build up Meat Cleaver and then use Raging Blow to hit multiple targets. Repeat this cycle until things are dead. At 6+ targets, just spam Whirlwind. Use Dragon Roar on cooldown.

Effective Cooldowns

These effective cooldowns are available if you chose them in your talent build.

Dragon Roar Use on cooldown for single target and AoE DPS.
Bloodbath Use on cooldown for single target and AoE DPS.
These are effective cooldowns to try and incorporate into most all encounters.

Battle Shout Maintain this buff and use for extra Rage.
Berserker Rage Use as needed to maintain Enrage.
Heroic Leap Use to quickly close the gap to your targets.
Recklessness Use as often as possible. Stack with other DPS cooldowns especially Skull Banner.
Shattering Throw Use as often as possible. Best timed with other raid cooldowns.
Skull Banner Use as often as possible. Stack with raid cooldowns and Recklessness.

DPS Rotation & Cooldowns (5.2) For Destruction Warlock

Maintaining a proper Rotation and using the right Cooldowns is essential to maximizing your Destruction Warlock. Use this guide to optimize your single target and AoE rotations while learning how to get the most out of your cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

DPS Priority:

Execute this priority for optimal DPS.

Curse of the Elements when nobody else provides the debuff.

Shadowburn when target is below 20% health. Consumes Burning Embers.
Immolate Maintain at all times.
Conflagrate on cooldown. Provides Backdraft and builds Burning Embers.
Rain of Fire maintain at all times.
Chaos Bolt to consume Burning Embers.
Incinerate to consume Backdraft and build Burning Embers.
Fel Flame when on the move, but not to extend Immolate.
Destruction Warlock DPS depends on building and consuming Burning Embers. Your top priority is to consume Burning Embers on Shadowburn when the target is below 20% health. To execute the DPS priority, maintain Immolate at all times and use Conflagrate as much as possible to provide the Backdraft buff. After this, maintain Rain of Fire on your target’s location and consume Burning Embers on Chaos Bolt when the target is above 20% health. Cast Incinerate as a filler spell and to build Burning Embers. Finally, Fel Flame may be used to extend the duration of Immolate in times of high movement or in an emergency where Immolate will drop before you can re-cast, but do not use Fel Flame under normal conditions.

Backdraft and Chaos Bolt:

Do not consume Backdraft with Chaos Bolt. Always use Backdraft on Incinerate for optimal Mana return and use of your Burning Embers.

Demon:

With Grimoire of Supremacy, use the Summon Observer as your pet for both single target and AoE DPS.

AoE Rotation

Rain of Fire

Fire and Brimstone
Havoc
With 2-3 targets, maintain the single target rotation while keeping Immolate on as many targets as possible. At 4+ targets, activate Fire and Brimstone and cast Immolate to spread Immolate to nearby targets. Maintain Rain of Fire as much as possible. If Immolate is still on your targets, use Incinerate + Fire and Brimstone to spend Burning Embers. Use Havoc when possible on your primary target.

Effective Cooldowns

These effective cooldowns are available if you chose them in your talent build.

Kiljaedens Cunning Use as needed for casting while on the move.

These are effective cooldowns to try and incorporate into most all encounters.

Dark Soul: Instability Use after pooling 3-4 Burning Embers.

Summon Infernal Use for burst AoE DPS. Exclusive with Summon Doomguard.
Summon Doomguard Use for burst single target DPS. Exclusive with Summon Infernal.

DPS Rotation & Cooldowns (5.2) For Arcane Mage

Maintaining a proper Rotation and using the right Cooldowns is essential to maximizing your Arcane Mage. Use this guide to optimize your single target and AoE rotations while learning how to get the most out of your cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

Armor:

Mage Armor

DPS Priority:

Execute the following priority for optimal DPS.

Nether Tempest maintain at all times.

Arcane Missiles when you have 2 charges saved.
Arcane Barrage with 4 Arcane Charge.
Arcane Blast to build Arcane Charge.
The goal of the Arcane Mage DPS rotation is to stay above 80% Mana as much as possible for the damage buff from Mastery: Mana Adept. To execute the Arcane DPS rotation, apply and maintain Nether Tempest on your target. After that, cast Arcane Missiles whenever you have a 2nd charge stored. Use Arcane Barrage when you have 4 Arcane Charge. Build Arcane Charge by casting Arcane Blast as a filler ability. In addition to executing the DPS priority, you should always remain within a Rune of Power to maximize your Mana regen and DPS.

Arcane Power:

Use Arcane Power on cooldown and stack with as many trinkets and pots as possible. With Arcane Power active, spam Arcane Blast and Arcane Missiles while using your Mana Gem to keep Mana up. When Arcane Power ends, follow the normal priority. Every other Arcane Power should be used with Alter Time.

Alter Time:

Try to use Alter Time when you have 2x Arcane Missiles, 4x Arcane Charge, and Arcane Power is up. When Alter Time is active, quickly use the Arcane Missiles procs and then spam Arcane Blast. Use Arcane Barrage just before Alter Time resets your buffs. At this point, continue with the normal rotation.

AoE Rotation

Nether Tempest

Flamestrike
Arcane Barrage
Arcane Explosion
At <= 4 enemies, maintain the single target rotation, but apply Nether Tempest to all targets. With > 4 enemies, maintain Nether Tempest on multiple-targets and cast Flamestrike on cooldown. Use Arcane Explosion as a filler and to generate Arcane Charge. Cast Arcane Barrage when Arcane Charge stacks equal the number of enemies in the group.

Effective Cooldowns

These effective cooldowns are available if you chose them in your talent build.

Nether Tempest Maintain at all times.

These are effective cooldowns to try and incorporate into most all encounters.

Alter Time See the detailed description in the single target DPS section.

Arcane Power Use as directed in the single target DPS section.
Evocation Replaced by Rune of Power. Always stand on a Rune of Power.
Mana Gem Stack with other cooldowns to slow Mana loss for more Mastery benefit.
Mirror Image Use on cooldown for a moderate DPS boost.
Time Warp Use as directed by your raid or party leader.

Tank Rotation & Cooldowns (5.2)

Maintaining a proper Rotation and using the right Cooldowns is essential to maximizing your Brewmaster Monk. Use this guide to optimize your single target and AoE rotations while learning how to get the most out of your cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

Buffs:

Maintain these buffs at all times.

Stance: Stance of the Sturdy Ox

Statue: Summon Black Ox Statue
Chi Builders:
Follow this priority to generate Chi.

Keg Smash on cooldown when at < 3 Chi. Applies Weakened Blows.

Expel Harm when you are not at full health.
Jab use to build Chi and prevent Energy capping.
Chi Finishers:
Follow this priority to spend Chi.

Purifying Brew to remove your Stagger DoT when Yellow or Red.

Elusive Brew if > 10 stacks. Delay up to 10-15 sec for anticipated damage.
Guard on cooldown. Delay up to 10-15 sec for anticipated damage.
Blackout Kick as often as possible. Aim for ~80% uptime on Shuffle.
Tiger Palm does not cost Chi, but is used like a finisher (see explanation).
The Brewmaster Monk single target tanking priority involves building and then spending Chi on abilities that improve your damage and survivability. For building Chi, you want to cast Keg Smash on cooldown as long as you have < 3 Chi or if Weakened Blows might drop. Cast Expel Harm if you are below 100% health and remember that you can spam cast Expel Harm if you are 35% health thanks to Desperate Measures. Otherwise, use Jab as your go-to Chi builder. Finally, be on the lookout for Power Strikes procs to provide an additional Chi or Chi Sphere from your Jab that you can use later.

Spending Chi is a bit more complicated than building Chi. Your first priority is to use Purifying Brew when your Stagger DoT is in its Yellow (moderate damage) or Red (high damage) stages. After this, use Elusive Brew when you have > 10 stacks of Brewing: Elusive Brew to prevent the stacks from capping. This ability may be delayed by 10-15 sec if you are expecting a spike in physical damage. Next, use Guard on cooldown, except when you might need to delay by 10-15 sec to mitigate any spike damage. Cast Blackout Kick as often as possible to activate Shuffle. Generally, you want to obtain an ~80% uptime on Shuffle as any higher uptime reduces how often you can use Guard.

Tiger Palm is a unique ability thanks to Brewmaster Training. For Brewmasters, Tiger Palm has no Chi cost and provides both the Tiger Power and Power Guard buffs. Tiger Power is easy to maintain as you will almost always cast Tiger Palm once every 20 sec, but Power Guard requires some planning. It is ideal to have Power Guard for each Guard. In most situations, you will have a Power Guard in time for each Guard, but if you need to use Guard for a large hit you should make sure to use Tiger Palm just before Guard is required.

Finally, one last ability needs to considered for effective Brewmaster Tanking: Gift of the Ox. This ability places Healing Spheres on the ground that you can move over for a decently sized heal. You should save ~3 spheres at all times and consume other spheres as they appear. Only consume the 3 reserved Spheres when you need a large heal to help recover from a major attack.

AoE Rotation

Dizzying Haze

Breath of Fire
Spinning Crane Kick
AoE tanking is pretty straight forward for Brewmasters. At 2 targets, continue with the single target rotation and switch between the targets as needed to maintain threat. With 3+ targets, maintain the Dizzying Haze debuff that is applied by Keg Smash and the DoT from Breath of Fire. At 10+ targets, spam Spinning Crane Kick to generate Chi and spend the Chi as you normally would. Also, remember to activate Rushing Jade Wind to apply Shuffle.

Effective Cooldowns

These effective cooldowns are available if you chose them in your talent build.

Zen Sphere Use with excess Chi for self-healing or to help with AoE threat.

Dampen Harm Use often to reduce damage. Line up with spike damage when possible.
These are effective cooldowns to try and incorporate into most all encounters.

Avert Harm Use as needed to reduce raid damage. Stack with other survival cooldowns.

Fortifying Brew Use as needed to mitigate damage or to stay alive during an emergency.
Nimble Brew Use to remove and/or prevent crowd control effects.
Provoke Use on an enemy for a single taunt or on Summon Black Ox Statue for an AoE taunt.
Touch of Death Be a ninja and try to time this when boss health < your health.
Zen Meditation Use proactively to reduce the damage of one large magic attack by 90%.

 Playing your Fire Mage

2.1 Buffs and cooldowns

You should have  Molten Armor and  Arcane Brilliance or  Dalaran Brilliance up at all times.
When you score a critical hit with a Fire spell, you will gain  Heating Up. If you score another one directly after that, it will change into  Pyroblast!.
You can have both active at the same time, so if you get a  Pyroblast proc your first next critical hit won't go to waste.

2.1.1 Offensive cooldowns

Evocation,  Rune of Power,  Incanter's Ward - Dependant on your Lv90 Talent choice. Attempt to keep these respective buffs up at all times.

Alter Time is best used with powerful trinket procs, temporary buffs and preferably a  Pyroblast! proc as well.

Combustion is more powerful with a bigger Ignite DoT, but with the current low cooldown you should not wait too long with using it.
Mirror Image only uses one global cooldown for 30 seconds of pewpew. Also hides your threat as long as they are up.
Time Warp should be used with caution. During Boss encounters there is usually a desired phase where the raid wishes to use this buff.

2.1.2 Defensive cooldowns

Ice Block is your emergency button. Unable to act but immune to all enemy abilities for 10 seconds.
Invisibility gets you out of combat and resets all your aggro.
Mirror Image hides all your threat as long as your Mirror Images are active. It is also a minor damage increase.
2.2 Single target rotation
1) Use  Combustion whenever your target has both the Pyroblast and Ignite DoT.
2) Refresh  Nether Tempest shortly before it expires. | Refresh  Living Bomb shortly before or after it expires. | Cast  Frost Bomb on cooldown.
3) Cast  Pyroblast if you have the  Pyroblast! buff.
4) Cast  Inferno Blast if you have the  Heating Up buff.
5) Cast  Fireball.

2.2.1 Ignite building

Coming soon.
2.3 AoE (4+) rotation
1) Spread your DoTs using  Inferno Blast. The cooldown refreshes after casting  Combustion, so chain them for optimal damage.
2) Use  Flamestrike on cooldown.
3) Cast  Arcane Explosion, or cast  Blizzard if you can't or don't want to get close enough.
2.4 Mana management
There are several spells you can use to regain Mana.
1)  Evocation,  Rune of Power,  Incanter's Ward - Dependant on your Lv90 Talent choice.
2)  Mana Gem - You can use this as soon as you're missing more Mana than it gives you. This item does not trigger a global cooldown.

Alternatives are  Arcane Torrent if you are a Blood Elf, and items such as Mana Potions.

2.5 Utility spells
Blink is used to run away and remove snares.
Counterspell can be used to interrupt the casts of enemy targets.
Dragon's Breath can sometimes be used to interrupts casts, as it also disorientates.
Polymorph is a powerful crowd control spell. It has no cooldown and a 50 second duration, but breaks on damage.
Remove Curse is used to remove Curses from friendly targets. Has a 8 second cooldown.
 Slow Fall is self-explanatory.
Spellsteal can be used to steal certain buffs from enemy targets.
2.6 Macros
This macro causes you to stop casting so you use  Ice Block immediately. Using it again removes  Ice Block.

This guide gives you all of the most critical information that you need to know so that you can play a Holy Paladin at level 90 in PVE content.  The guide covers talents, glyphs, stats, reforging, and rotations.
This guide will assume that since you are level 90 you will be able to take the basic information and run with it, simple topics like addons, macros, targeting, and more are not covered.

The Role of a Holy Paladin

As a Holy Paladin your role in a group is to heal other players. Holy Paladins have always been solid tank healers and due to several changes in Cataclysm and in Mists of Pandaria they can also do some solid group and raid healing. Holy Paladins excel at long fights and have great mana management abilities.
A Holy Paladin can also provide several benefits and abilities to serve a group in addition to the healing that they provide.
Paladin Tier 2
The classic tier 2 raid set, one of the favourite Paladin sets for many players.
  • Provides either of two great raid buffs, either Blessing of Kings of Blessing of Might. These provide either a 5% boost to strength, agility, and intellect from BoK, or 3000 mastery from BoM.
  • Can lower incoming magic damage to all raid members by 20% for 6 seconds every 3 minutes.
  • Can make themselves or another player immune to all physical damage for 10 seconds every 5 minutes, in addition to a second bubble ability that they can use on themselves only that makes them immune to all damage for 8 seconds every 5 minutes.
  • A short term CC from Hammer of Justice (6 seconds every 1 minute), and a long term CC through the talent Repentance.

Holy Paladin Talents and Glyphs

Holy Paladins have traditionally been main tank healers, since they provide large efficient heals and can keep up healing over a long period of time. Over the last few expansions though they have gained abilities that also allow them to AOE heal and are therefore solid all around healers now.
To make the most of your healing there are a few talents that you should select, however with the new talent system for the most part you are free too chose talents and glyphs that you like rather than specific ones.
As a Holy Paladin you should make sure you choose the following talents:
Sacred Shield
Sacred Shield (Tier 3 talent) - This talent grants you a shield spell that will protect the target from some incoming damage for up to 30 seconds, and is on a 6 second cooldown. The amount of damage it prevents before fading scales with your healing power.
This shield is in addition to the Illuminated Healing bubble that your mastery grants and provides a huge boost to your ability to keep a target alive. While not necessarily a healing spell since it prevents damage instead of healing damage already done, it is a key part of your healing ability and should not be skipped.
Divine Purpose (Tier 5 talent) - This talent grants your abilities that cost Holy Power a 25% chance to proc a Divine Purpose buff. This buff allows you to cast another Holy Power ability within 8 seconds for free as if you had 3 Holy Power.
This provides a huge boost to your overall healing and a reduction to your mana consumption since a big part of your healing rotation will be using Word of Glory, which cost no mana but uses 3 Holy Power. This ability allows you to use it 25% more often upping healing output and reducing mana usage.
Light's Hammer (Tier 6 talent) - This talent grants you a new ability that places a hammer of light on the ground that radiates holy energy. Any enemy in the area takes damage and any ally is healed. The area of effect lasts 17 seconds and the ability is on a 60 second cooldown.
This talent grants a solid AOE healing ability as well as allowing you to deal some AOE damage at the same time. Since Holy Paladins have relatively few AOE healing options this is a must have.
For Holy Paladins there are no real Glyphs that are required for healing, however there are some that will change or enhance your healing is different ways. None offer any overall significant increase in your healing though.
The ones to consider however are: Divine Plea, Lay of Hands, Flash of Light, and Light of Dawn.

Holy Paladin Stat Priority

It is important to understand your stat priority for your class, as going after the wrong stats can really hurt your ability to play that class. For a Holy Paladin the key stats are those that allow you to heal for big numbers and over a long period of time.
The stat priority for a Holy Paladin is as follows:
Spirit > Intellect > Mastery > Haste > Crit
The first two stats of Spirit and Intellect will change priority depending on your current gear level and which fights you are dealing with. Intellect provides larger heals while Spirit provide higher mana regeneration. In most cases Spirit is a higher priority as a smaller heal, but one that you can continue to cast throughout a whole fight without running out of mana.
Important Notes:
  • Mastery - The key stat once you are looking past the core stats of Spirit and Intellect is Mastery. Mastery is your biggest secondary stat for a pretty simple reason, it boosts the absorption shield that your heals create on your healed targets. This shield does several things, all of which benefit you. The shield means that the target takes less damage, so you have to heal less, and therefore use less mana.
  • Haste– Haste allows you to cast spells in a shorter time and for several of your heals (those that heal over time) to heal more as it will increase the number of ticks of healing that they do. Both of these benefits are very good for you as a healer, however they are still overshadowed by the benefits that mastery provides.

Reforging as Holy Paladin

When reforging simply follow the stat priority above for Holy Paladin and move the lowest stat to the highest stat that the piece does not have on it.

Important Notes:
  • Spirit - At some point while gearing up you will get to an amount of spirit that allows your mana to last through the longest fights that you are dealing with. Once you have reached that point you can start to prioritize Mastery and Haste over Spirit on upgrades as long as you make sure that you maintain the amount of spirit that you already had, and continue to monitor your mana in fights, if at any point you start having mana issues, reforge some spirit back onto your gear.

Holy Paladin Cooldowns

There are several cooldowns that you can use as a Holy Paladin that can play a big part in your healing rotation.  They are as follows:
Avenging Wrath – This is best used when you need to heal through significant damage as it boosts all healing by 20% for 20 seconds and is on a 3 minute cooldown.
Divine Favor - This is another 20 second buff on a 3 minute cooldown but to crit and haste instead of overall healing as above. However, since they are on the same cooldown and last the same time, they are best used together for a huge boost in healing.
Devotion Aura - Reduces all raid magic damage suffered by 20% for 6 seconds, and stops you from being silenced or interrupted during that time. It is on a 5 minute cooldown.
Guardian of Ancient Kings – Summons a spirit that heals your target and those around it for 30 seconds. This is another great healing boost that can provide a huge amount of healing to help keep a tank alive through heavy damage. It is on a 5 minute cooldown so is best used between AW / DV cooldowns when you need a lot of burst healing.
Lay of Hands - This is your really big "Oh Crap" heal. It is best used on your tank if he is about to go down.
Light's Hammer - Assuming you took the recommended talents above you will have this cooldown. Use in on an area where there are multiple players concentrated together to provide an AOE heal over 15 seconds.

Holy Paladin Single Healing Target Rotation

Paladin Tier 13
Healing is a lot more about situational awareness than about a set rotation. By this I mean that if the target does not need to be healed, you shouldn't waste the mana to cast a heal on them just to push out big healing numbers.
The rotation that provides the most efficient healing output against a single target is roughly as follows:
1 - Seal of Insight – Make sure this seal is active for all encounters.
2 - Beacon of Light– Keep this active on the Tank that you are healing.
3 - Sacred Shield  - Refresh this every 26 - 28 seconds to make sure it stays active.
4 - Holy Shock – Use whenever available to generate Holy Power.
5 - Word of Glory - Use when you reach 3 Holy Power to provide a good sized heal for free.
6 - Holy Light or Divine Light - Use Holy Light as a filler while Holy Shock is on cooldown if the target is suffering light damage, or use Divine Light if the target is suffering heavy damage.
7 - Flash of Light - Use if you need to save someone quickly and will not have enough time to cast a longer cast time heal.
Important: Watch for the procs that Holy Paladins can generate. Divine Purpose procs allow you an extra and free Word of Glory. Infusion of Light lowers the cast time of several of you heals and will generally be used without even having to worry about watching for it.

Holy Paladin AOE Healing Rotation

While not as good at AOE healing as some healing classes, Holy Paladins can put out a good deal of AOE healing on demand, just don't expect them to keep it up forever. If damage is not large coming in on the group, it is best to just use your most efficient heal (Holy Light) and rotate through multiple targets healing each of them, however as raid damage increases and the number of targets being damaged increases, you can then get maximum healing by using the following rotation.
1 - Seal of Insight – Make sure this seal is active for all encounters.
2 - Beacon of Light– Keep this active on the main Tank.
3 - Light's Hammer (Talent Choice) - Use this ability centered on the most players possible once they start taking damage.
4 - Light of Dawn - Use when you reach 3 Holy Power to cast a powerful and free AOE heal.
5 - Holy Radiance – Use this ability to AOE heal and to generate Holy Power.
